About Rowing

Whether it's the thrill of speed or the camaraderie of shared experience, rowing is a sport with much to offer! Rowing is a great way to get fit and meet new people.

Can you imagine anything more peaceful than the quiet hum of a boat gliding across the smooth water of the Canning River?

Rowing is the ultimate team sport, and that team spirit can be enjoyed in both a competitive and a recreational environment.

What do I need to wear???

  • hat, sunscreen and a lightweight shirt are essential in summer
  • in winter, you will need warm clothes to start that can be peeled off in layers as you warm up
  • close fitting shorts that won't get caught in the equipment i.e. bike shorts or similar
  • socks are needed to keep your feet comfortable in the foot straps of the boat
  • water bottle

Will I fall out?

While learning in a single scull (a boat for one person with two oars) may result in a few dunkings, it is very rare to fall out of a crew boat. For safety, all rowing participants must be able to swim at least 100m.

Am I too old/short/fat?

No, but you'll never ever know if you never ever row!

Can I start today?

Contact the club via our e-mail address and we will find a way to get you into a boat. If you miss the Learn to Row course, we can start you off within our recreational group and give you the opportunity to make a choice about competitive rowing once you have gotten the hang of it.

We look forward to your company, so come on down and take up an oar!
